Dortin’s main residential neighborhoods for Humans are arrayed on the fringes of the city’s core. On the east is a middle-class residential band known as The Valley, in the low areas between the city’s core and the high ground of Orchard Hill, the exclusive area where Dortin’s wealthiest have their ‘country houses’. The northern half of the Valley is often called Soldiers’ Beach in reference to the military housing that stood here in the Imperial period, and the fact that Dortin’s other popular beaches are located here, as well as its only Public Boat Launch. At one time the Valley was also military housing, but for the rank and file, and it retains this blue-collar character today. Today this is Leigh land, and very different from Soldiers’ Beach in that it is a liberal area where workers can be found on their stoops with a bottle in the evenings, families are larger and more boisterous, and the city’s working girls find a warm reception. Streets are narrow (10’) but well-kept and lit with torches.
