The partially Dwarven city located several hundred miles south of Dortin along The River Dortin. Faldoth was founded at roughly the same time as Amandiem by Continentals of the First Fleet. Though Amandiem became their capital, Faldoth became their armory. It remains to this day a fortress city, filled with factories, smelters and forges for turning the coal mined from nearby mountains into high-quality weaponry and trinkets for Imperial households. The city itself is 10% Dwarven and the surrounding countryside much more so; most of these Dwarves are either craftsmen or involved in the coal business. Some of them trade as far north as Dortin. Faldoth is firmly a part of The Empire That Was, still tightly connected to the political and economic sphere of Amandiem, even as outlying cities like Fogbrindle and Dortin have gained a measure of autonomy. It is a gritty, dirty, industrial city where Continentals still rule despite their dwindling population and Lightskins form a growing underclass of factory workers, merchants, and soldiers.
The mingling of races here, plus economic inequality and rampant corruption in the appointed Imperial government, fuels a growing discontent with daily life. Many of the city’s lower classes have taken up the adventuring life, and one frequently finds natives of Faldoth on the streets of Dortin. In addition, a network of young activists plus intellectuals and artists of other generations has arisen in the city to challenge the status quo directly with demonstrations and other disturbances. Labeled the Black Spring movement, their professed goal is the revival of Continental culture across the south and the building of a new democratic society, beginning with overthrowing the corrupt elites of Faldoth.
